Introduction
Effective date: October 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ClearlyEnergy, Inc. ("ClearlyEnergy," "we," "our," "us") collects, uses, shares and protects information when you use the Remotely mobile app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices (the "App"). Remotely lets you collect answers, measurements, and photos for a virtual home energy audit, and synchronizes them with your ClearlyEnergy account.
Information we collect
We collect only the information the App needs to create your account and run your home energy audits. We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking tools in the App.
- Account information: First name, last name, email address, password, account ID. Where it comes from: You, when you create an account.
- Home information: Street address, program, year built, size. Where it comes from: You, when you add a home.
- Audit answers: Answers about the home’s construction, equipment and energy use. Where it comes from: You, during an audit.
- Measurements: Room, story and window measurements made with the camera (augmented reality). Where it comes from: The App, using your camera, when you measure.
- Photos: Photos of the home and its equipment, such as equipment labels. Photos taken in the App include the location where they were taken. Where it comes from: You, using your camera or choosing photos from your device.
- Location: Your device’s precise location, and the compass direction the home faces. Where it comes from: The App, when you allow location access and record a home’s orientation.
Device permissions
The App asks before it uses these features of your device. You can change your choice at any time in your device's Settings.
- Camera viewer: to measure stories and windows, and to take photos of the home. No video recording is taken or saved.
- Location: to record the home's location and the direction it faces.
- Photos: to save a copy of each photo you take in the App to your device's photo library or gallery. When you choose an existing photo, the App receives only the photos you pick.
How we use your information
We use your information to provide the App's audit features, and for no other purpose.
- To run your account: to sign you in, keep your homes in sync across your devices, and let you change your email or password.
- To complete audits for programs: when you submit an audit, it goes to ClearlyEnergy for review under the program you chose.
- To support you: to answer questions you send us.
We do not use App data for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we share your information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only in these cases:
- Service providers: Amazon Web Services runs our sign-in (Amazon Cognito) and stores photos and other App data for us. Providers may use your information only to provide their services to us.
- Energy programs: when you submit an audit under a program, the program that runs it may receive the audit so it can be completed.
- Home energy labels: we create home energy labels from your audit, and the kind of label depends on your program. We store labels on our own systems. Some programs also require us to submit labels elsewhere, such as the program's own database. We send labels only to the places your program requires, or where the law requires it.
- Legal requirements: where the law requires it, or in response to valid requests from public authorities.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger or acquisition, to the party acquiring the information.
Information stored on your device
The App keeps a copy of your homes, answers and photos on your device, so you can keep working without a connection. Changes are sent to your ClearlyEnergy account as soon as you are online.
- Signing out deletes the App's copy of your data from the device. Data already sent to your account is kept.
- When your session expires, the data stays on the device until you sign in again.
- If someone else signs in on the same device, the previous user's data is deleted from the device first.
- Photos saved to your photo library or gallery stay there until you delete them, because they belong to your library rather than the App.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time, in the App.
- Open Settings from the home list.
- Tap Delete account, confirm that you understand it cannot be undone, and tap Delete Account.
Deleting your account deletes your account and sign-in, all of your homes, and their answers, measurements and photos. You are signed out right away, and the App's copy of your data is deleted from your device. We delete the rest from our systems within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.
Information submitted to programs. When you submit an audit, we may send the audit and its home energy label where your program requires. These submissions include your name, email address and home's address, and they become part of the program's records. Some programs submit information because a local law or regulation requires it, such as a building energy disclosure ordinance. We keep those submissions for as long as the law requires. Deleting your account does not delete these submissions. To ask us to remove your information from them, email info@clearlyenergy.com, and we will remove it from BEAM unless a program or the law requires us to keep it.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict how we process it.
- Access and correct: you can view and edit your homes and answers in the App, and change your email or password in Settings.
- Delete: you can delete your account in the App, as described above.
- Device permissions: you can turn camera and location access off at any time in your device's Settings. Measuring and photos will not work without the camera.
- Anything else: email info@clearlyenergy.com, and we will respond as the law requires.
Security
The App sends your information to us over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and only signed-in users can reach their own data. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect it, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children
The App is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information without a parent or guardian’s permission. A parent or guardian who learns that their child gave us personal information can email info@clearlyenergy.com, and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the App or the law. We will post the new version at this address with a new effective date. Please review it from time to time.
